Vertical Sortation Conveyors In Residential Buildings

Vertical sortation conveyors are often used in factories and in airports for sorting and delivering packages. These devices are preceded by several queue conveyors that regulate the flow of the items. Using the feed from the queue conveyors, the sortation conveyors deliver each item to its proper destination for two or more vertically aligned conveyors. The item is redirected by shifting the positions of two or more conveyors. On the other hand, vertical sortation conveyors may also be used for merging items from two or more conveyors.

These sorting devices may also complement the residential elevator system that is usually found in multi-story residential buildings. For buildings with several apartments and floors, residential elevators are not just for the elderly or the physically disabled. They are a necessity for most people who do not relish walking up several flights of stairs. Meanwhile, while the elevators deliver the people to their destinations, the vertical sortation conveyor delivers items to the residents. For example, packages may arrive for the residents and the building manager may send them to the proper apartments using this device. For example, a residential building with three floors may use a device with three output conveyors that lead to the various floors.

This kind of sortation conveyor is usually constructed using a single main frame that can contain all three conveyors, including the drive unit and the various control mechanisms. Manual positioning is also allowed just in case the system for switching the conveyors fails to do its function. Each conveyor has its own motor to drive it and it may use a belt or a roller as the transporting element. The conveyor that utilizes a belt requires less power and is simpler in design but has a lower weight capacity. On the other hand, the conveyor that uses rollers will have a more complex driving mechanism but it will have a higher weight capacity. Another option is the screw conveyor that provides a convenient and efficient way to bring small items to the appropriate levels.

This kind of machinery can complement stair lifts or home elevators to minimize the use of the latter devices and thus minimize electric power consumption. They are also convenient because the package or item goes to the resident instead of the other way around. While residential elevators enhance the mobility of the residents who have reduced mobility because of age or physical disabilities, the conveyors work at the other end by bringing certain items to the residents instead of the residents being required to use the elevator to go down and get the items and then use the elevator again to go up. Therefore, the conveyors not only reduce the time that it would take before the package is in the hands of the resident but also the electric power consumption that is associated with this activity. Thus, vertical sortation conveyors provide the convenience of delivering items or packages to the residents themselves in a multi-story apartment building. This will ensure that the use of the elevator is minimized, thus saving time and expenses at the same time.
